Valheim Server not working with Playit.gg

Ubuntu 24.04.5 LTS
SteamCMD
LinuxGSM
Playit.gg

Hello, I’m trying to setup a Valheim Server.
the server is running and i can connect Via Local and Via the servers ip but i can’t connect via the Playit ip and it does not show in game

has anyone an idea what i could do?

I just got mine working on a similar setup (excepting linuxgsm, I just run the start_server.sh script).

  1. make sure the playit.gg agent is running and the tunnel says “live.” Same the valheim server, make sure it’s running and there are no obvious errors in the logs.
  2. use netstat -peanut and ensure that valheim really, truly is listening on the port you’ve informed the playit.gg tunnel to use. If you don’t see 2456 in there (assuming you’re using valheim’s default port), that’s probably a red flag.
    1. You can check the playit.gg tunnel’s info on “tunnels > [your tunnel] > origin configuration”, the port here should match the port you’re listening on in netstat
  3. Consider running the valheim server without crossplay - for me, turning on crossplay actually STOPPED valheim from listening on the port I specified (instead, it started listening on an ephemeral port that I couldn’t track in playit.gg’s config).

Those were the issues I had with mine… just typical configuration mismatch. If you post your valheim server logs and the status of your playit.gg tunnel/agent/info etc, you might have a little more traction on your ask.

Pertinent network information would be good to know about too, although the playit agent was pretty good about setting up a tunnel through my network.

The generated valheim config file should state the number of ports your need (the preset tunnel currently uses 2 ports, will be changed to 3) it should also state the port currently configured and yes we suggest matching ports end to end starting from the tunnel’s public facing port, as stated by valheim crossplay uses another server so yes that won’t work with playit.
